(2021). <a href=\"https:\/\/www150.statcan.gc.ca\/n1\/pub\/75-004-m\/75-004-m2019004-eng.htm\">The gender wage gap in Canada: 1998 to 2018<\/a>.[\/footnote].\n\nWomen experience far greater levels of violence and harassment than man, with 1 in 5 women and girls (globally) between the ages of 15 and 49 report experiencing physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner within a 12-month period<sup>2<\/sup>.\u00a0 For Canada, 4 in 10 women have experienced some form of intimate partner violence in their lifetimes[footnote]Statistics Canada. (2021). <a href=\"https:\/\/www150.statcan.gc.ca\/n1\/daily-quotidien\/210426\/dq210426b-eng.htm\">Intimate partner violence in Canada, 2018<\/a>.[\/footnote]. In\u202f2018,\u202f44% of women in the Canadian population reported experiencing some form of psychological, physical, or sexual violence by an intimate partner in their lifetimes<sup>5<\/sup>. Approximately every 6 days, a woman in the Canadian population is killed by her intimate partner, with Indigenous women and girls 12 times more likely to be murdered or go missing than other women[footnote]Canadian Women\u2019s Foundation. (2021). <a href=\"https:\/\/canadianwomen.org\/the-facts\/gender-based-violence\/\">What is the scope of gender-based violence in Canada?<\/a>[\/footnote].\n\nThe 2030 Agenda envisions a world where all women and girls are valued and empowered, have control over their own lives, fully participate as decision makers in their homes and societies, and contribute to and benefit from development and prosperity equally.
